WHAT MUST I HAVE OR DO?
1. A completed BSA Class 2 Personal Health and Medical Record MUST be sent to the BSA Service Center one week prior to your first day of Sailing Camp.
2. Sunscreen - at least SPF 15 or higher is recommended. You should arrive with sunscreen already applied. Bring extra with you to put on as needed. Be sure you don't miss the rest of the training from bad sunburn because you didn't use sunscreen on the first day - use it!
3. Hat - any type is okay, but a "floppy" hat is best. An 18 inch string and a safety pin to attach your hat to your shirt are recommended.
4. Sunglasses - We recommend polarized glasses, with a string or "Croakies" type connector to prevent their loss when you end up in the water.
5. PFD-(Personal Floatation Device) If you purchase a life vest, you will be happier with a closer-fitting Type III vest which can be purchased at a boating store such as Academy, Boater's World, or West Marine. Please make sure your PFD fits you. Don't forget to put your name on your personal PFD.
6. Shoes- Boat shoes, tennis shoes or Aqua Socks are required. Sandals or any open-toe shoes are not permitted due to the higher risk of foot injuries.
7. Miscellaneous- Light-weight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothes are best. Be sure to bring a change of clothes and a towel with you. If you are participating for the Small Boat Sailing merit badge, be sure to bring a blue merit-badge card with you and inform the instructor when you arrive.
8. Snack lunch- Each participant s responsible for providing their own sack lunch with a drink each day.
