Good Turn for America
Find out how you and your unit can get involved!
The South Texas Council has adopted a new policy at it's June 2007 board meeting regarding Eagle Service Projects Hours and reporting those hours through the Good Turn for America Initiative. Good Turn for America is a national call to service by the Boy Scouts of America to address the issues of hunger, homelessness and poor health in our nation.
The NEW policy of the South Texas Council is that all Eagle Service Project data and hours are to be entered by the Eagle candidate or his unit on the Good Turn for America website, prior to submitting the candidate's completed application to the Advancement Committee for an Eagle Scout Board of Review and processing.
In this effort, the Boy Scouts of America is partnering with some of the nation's most respected service organizations, including The Salvation Army and Habitat for Humanity. These organizations, and thousands of others, will work to provide opportunities for youth and volunteers to fight hunger and homelessness, and teach the habits of healthy living.
Youth and volunteers are looking for ways to serve their communities. At the same time, service organizations need dedicated volunteer help. By working together, we can improve our communities, our state and the nation.
By recording your unit’s service hours on the Good Turn for America website, you help Scouting nationwide tell the story of the good our program is doing.
INSTRUCTIONS TO REGISTER SERVICE HOURS WITH GOOD TURN FOR AMERICA:
1) Units have received informational material with a login and access number to report and track service projects conducted OR find your Good Turn ID Number here and get involved or call the office (361) 814-4300 to get your unit’s Good Turn for America ID and local unit number.
2) Visit www.goodturnforamerica.org.
3) Once you’re on the Good Turn site, follow the directions to enter your service project information. Among the information you’ll be asked to provide:
Date of the project
# of registered Scouts participating
# of adult leaders participating
Total hours worked on the project
Who or what organizations benefited from the project
4) After entering the data, your unit will be eligible to receive the Good Turn for America patch and year segment.
All service and service projects whether it’s an Eagle Service Project or a project your Pack, Troop or Crew has taken on or helped with should be reported. This information helps us and the BSA to provide positive public relations to counteract those groups working to undermine the Boy Scouts of America.
